I’ve been in a long distance relationship for over a year and a half. He came out of a very toxic codependent enmeshed lifelong relationship with his malignant grandiose Narcissistic mother which nearly killed him. I really want to write a book about his life story of captivity and abuse. I let him when he was 51, never married, only had one relationship in his mid 20’s that was highly monitored by his mother and he never got into another romantic relationship again. I was the catalyst that exposed what and who his mother was and with lots of RUclips videos he stared to come out of the spell he was under. He’s gone no contact for 6 months now, but he’s now transferred his codependency with me. He’s hyper vigilant and needs excessive connection. I understand that he’s in a really vulnerable place right now so I’m being very patient with it and he’s never been truly independent or autonomous. He’ll be going into therapy in one week and start the work with someone who’s qualified to help him work through everything that happened to him and all the ways that he has to heal and recover. A part of me is starting to realize that he might need a period of being completely alone to really face his issues but it will be very hard for me to end things because I really do love him. I also love him enough that if this is what he needs to face the entirety of his baggage then it’ll have to be the case.

the exaclty same thing happend with me . he was a great guy we had so much in common but had a minute feeling that this was not it. i keep ignoring it for months but was never happy with him. he was head over heels for me but i felt guilty of not feeling the same way so i ended it. but he is soo heartbroken about it which has left me with huge amount of guilt since then that i am not able to love anyone because of the guilt
